We provide a battery testing service to keep your battery installation at optimum condition. If detected quickly, a relatively simple single block replacement or adjustment of charging characteristics can prevent the need for a costly battery set replacement.
If you only use a multimeter to check the condition of a battery then you should expect the result to be inaccurate because a bad battery may also show a good voltage. This means the battery might fail under a load test! In order to thoroughly test the battery condition, you need to apply a load to the battery. There are 3 main tests used to fully assess the condition and performance of your batteries. We are able to undertake load-bank, discharge and impedance testing which enables us to see the true performance of your batteries in their current state. A written report is issued highlighting any areas of concern together with any recommendations
With these tests you will know that the battery is in a good working condition.
At Borri we are able to incorporate any of these tests within any of our maintenance contracts or even as one-off visits.
Real load discharge testTop
This test uses your load as a means of discharging the batteries. To enable this we will conduct a simulated mains failure and monitor the performance and integrity of the batteries and UPS system. The benefits of this are:
- This test is the equivalent of an unexpected mains failure so is a true representation of how the UPS system and batteries will react so if an unexpected and unplanned power outage occurs you will have peace of mind that the UPS will perform as expected
- You will receive a true representation of how much autonomy you will receive with your existing batteries and your existing load so that you can plan accordingly and effectively
- As it is a planned mains failure our engineer will be monitoring the battery voltage and will be able to switch the supply back on to the UPS when the batteries have discharged to a predetermined voltage
- In the unlikely event there is a fault on the UPS our engineer will be on hand to ensure a speedy source of mains is provided
Load bank testingTop
We understand that not all of our customers are able to expose their load any risk so this test is very similar to the real load discharge test, except it uses an artificial load instead of your own load.
The benefits of load bank testing your batteries are:
- Having total confidence in critical power supply integrity.
- Battery discharge testing for accurate, effective and low cost proof of battery integrity and autonomy.
- Engineer controlled tests tailored to your requirements, ensures no unnecessary testing or risk to your load.
- Out of hours testing can be arranged to help minimise disruption to client operations.
- Mobile AC and DC load banks of any size available, allowing testing of any installation anywhere within the UK.
- Fully documented procedures ensuring full traceability of all test events and actions.
- The UPS calibrations can be checked and if required altered, including the battery re-charge currents and the battery voltage settings
- If there is a fault with the batteries it is best to find out in a controlled environment with a Borri engineer onsite rather than in an emergency situation where the integrity and security of the load may be compromised
Impedance testingTop
Impedance testing the batteries is way of determining the internal resistance of each battery in the string. The benefits of impedance testing are:
- Non-intrusive testing which means that the batteries will not require charging following the completion of the tests.
- The UPS can be left in operation supplying the load as only the battery string being tested requires isolating.
- The tested battery impedance can be compared to manufacturers specification and any faulty individual batteries can be quickly identified.
- A trend can be established if the batteries are tested annually to monitor the rate of deterioration.
- Full report can be provided upon completion
