Diesel generator engines have rapidly evolved over the last ten years to meet emerging transportation and environmental requirements. Great improvements in performance have been made thanks to advances in metallurgy, lubrication, noise and volume control.

Diesel generator engines will operate at speeds including 750, 1000, 1200, 1500, 1800 and 3000 RPM. Most 50Hz generators run at 1500RPM and 60Hz systems at 1800RPM. Engine speeds (and frequency) are controlled by a governor.
